HILO, HAWAII (HawaiiNewsNow) - A malfunction caused emergency sirens on the Big Island to go off Friday night, but Hawaii County Civil Defense said there was no emergency.
According to interim Civil Defense Administrator Ed Teixeira, a siren malfunctioned in the Hawaiian Paradise Park subdivision. When emergency crews tried to reset the siren, all the other sirens went off instead. That happened at about 9:50 p.m.
Teixeira apologized for the situation and thanked residents for their patience and understanding.
