HILO, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - A 38-year-old man who was suing Big Island police over the death of his brother while in custody has himself died after an arrest.
Clarence Hatori died on June 30, 15 days after he was found unconscious and in critical condition in the Hilo cellblock.
Hatori was in custody after being arrested on suspicion of robbery and charged with two counts of contempt of court.
Hatori's brother, Randall, died while in police custody in 2014, after he was tased following a traffic stop in Kona.
Clarence Hatori filed a wrongful death lawsuit following his brother's death, alleging police delayed getting medical help. That lawsuit is still pending.
