KAANAPALI, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - -

A ball python was captured at a Kaanapali coffee farm last week, the state Department of Agriculture said.

The non-venomous snake, which was about three to four feet long, was subsequently euthanized because of a condition.

Officials said it's unclear where the snake came from.

Ball pythons are common in the pet trade on the mainland. They are native to Africa, and can grow up to six feet long.

Anyone who spots an illegal animal in the islands is asked to call the state's pest hotline at 643-7378.
