PRINCEVILLE, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - The Coast Guard is asking for the public's help to identify the owner of a small boat found adrift off Kauai.
A NOAA crew found the 18 to 20 foot long aluminum boat about 25 miles north of Princeville on Wednesday just before 10 a.m.
A team from the Coast Guard Air Station at Barbers Point immediately searched the area, but found no signs of anyone who may have run into trouble nearby.
The Coast Guard urges any one who may lose their watercraft to report it so that they can rule out the possibility of missing people and eliminate the need for an unnecessary search.
They also offer free "if found" decals that can be placed on small watercraft. The stickers can be obtained at local harbormasters, through the Coast Guard Auxiliary, from Honolulu Sail and Power Squadron offices and at certain marine retail and supply stores.
