KAILUA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A hiker was rescued Tuesday morning after clinging to the side of the risky Olomana hike in Windward Oahu for hours.

Rescue crews say the man, 53, slipped and fell down the side of the trail. Fortunately, he was able to grasp onto something as he fell, and was still clinging to the side of the mountain when firefighters were finally able to reach him about two hours later.

"When we arrived at scene the weather conditions were bad, so our rescue mission was inhibited by rain and clouds," said HFD Battalion Chief  Damien Kahaulelio.

The man was taken to the hospital with serious head, shoulder and leg injuries.

He was part of a group of hikers made up of other adults and teens who were all escorted down the trail.
