NANAKULI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Police are looking for the driver of an SUV that fatally struck a man in Nanakuli on July Fourth.
The crash happened about 11 p.m., when the 46-year-old man was crossing Farrington Highway in a marked crosswalk near Hakimo Road.
Police said a dark-colored SUV hit the man, and the fled the scene.
The victim was taken to the Queen's Medical Center in critical condition, where he later died.
The SUV may have front end or windshield damage. It's unclear if alcohol or speed was involved.
This was the 28th traffic fatality this year, compared to 27 at the same time last year.
The incident happened just a day after a female pedestrian was struck and killed while crossing Farrington Highway in Waianae.
Anyone with information about the driver involved in the fatal hit-and-run is asked to call police or CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.
