Thousands packed the beach in Waikiki for the 73rd annual Walter J. MacFarlane regatta on Monday.
Hawaii's Fourth of July tradition brought out everyone from keiki to senior masters to compete in the Oahu Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association's 5th regatta of the season. The competition was comprised of 45 events this year, and is OHCRA's only wave regatta.
While those summer south shore swells can be hard for some to navigate, the team from Lanikai didn't seem to have an issue, they finished in the top spot in the AAA division, while Healani took first overall in AA. Leeward Kai, finished a convincing first in the A division, winning it by double digits.
