Trade winds are backing down a little bit but will remain locally gusty through the Independence Day holiday weekend. A Wind Advisory remains posted until midnight Saturday, but the area covered by the advisory has been narrowed to Lanai, East Maui, and the Kohala area of the Big Island. Rainfall will remain on the light side, with more showers for the windward areas of the Big Island and Maui.

An area of tropical moisture is expected to make its way through the state starting Sunday night into the 4th of July holiday through the middle of the week. It shouldn't be a washout, but there will more widespread showers for windward and mauka areas, with the breezy trades pushing those showers leeward.

The winds are strong enough for a Small Craft Advisory for most coastal waters, while a High Surf Advisory is in effect for east-facing shores for a rough and dangerous trade wind swell.
