HANA, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A California man visiting Maui is in serious but stable condition after being pulled out of the waters at Hamoa Beach on Friday afternoon.
Bystanders at the beach found the 54-year-old man from San Mateo floating face down and motionless. They alerted Maui Fire Department at around 2:03 p.m.
Firefighters, who arrived 10 minutes later, said the man did not appear to have taken in any water.
The man was able to talk to firefighters when they were treating him and told them he was not able to get out of the water after being knocked over by a wave and hitting his head on the ocean floor.
Paramedics airlifted him to the Maui Memorial Medical Center.
