Scammers claiming to be from the Honolulu Fire Department are calling local residents requesting to inspect their homes and smoke alarms, fire officials warn.

It is believed that the scammers are trying to gain access to homes.

If you receive such calls, do not give out any personal information and immediately report them to 911 or the Honolulu Fire Department at 723-7151.

The HFD installs smoke alarms in local homes through the Smoke Alarms For Everyone (SAFE) program.  However, the HFD does not conduct a phone campaign for the SAFE program or any other program.

If you have any information regarding this scam, please contact the HPD or CrimeStoppers Honolulu at 955-8300.
