KAENA POINT, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - If you were planning to camp or hike at Peacock Flats over the holiday weekend, you're out of luck.
The U.S. Air Force has closed the Kaena Point Satellite Tracking Station access road due to a "heightened security level."
The road is the main access to Kuaokala Forest Reserve.
The state said vehicle access to the Earl Pawn campground at Peacock Flats and the Kuaokala trail in the Waianae mountains is closed immediately until further notice.
Those with permits for Friday through Tuesday will get refunds. A state Department of Land and Natural Resources spokeswoman couldn't immediately say how many permit holders are affected.
