The National Highway Traffic Safety Administrations warns more than 300,000 cars with faulty Takata airbags have a much higher risk of exploding or killing a driver or passenger than initially thought.

Hawaii residents are particularly at risk because the airbags are more prone to rupture in hot, humid environments.

The affected cars are Honda Civics, Accords, CR-Vs and Odysseys manufactured between 2001 and 2002 as well as Acuras and Honda Pilots made between 2002 and 2003.

NHTSA warns drivers to not drive any of these models until they are fixed.
