MAKAHA, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The driver in a fatal hit-and-run crash on Farrington Highway last year was sentenced Wednesday to 30 days in prison.
Authorities said Vince Kalaola hit Gail Peeples while she was walking along the highway with her 13-year-old granddaughter May 31, 2015. He then continued driving and fled the scene.
The girl survived, but Peeples died at the scene.
Kalaola could've gotten 10 years in prison, but the judge gave him a month behind bars and four years of probation since he's a first-time offender and showed remorse.
