KEAAU, HAWAII (HawaiiNewsNow) - Big Island firefighters extinguished a building fire Tuesday in Keaau.
According to officials, the fire broke out around 11:45 a.m. from a structure on 32nd Avenue in Keaau. Upon arrival, firefighters found flames coming from the garage side of the structure as well as heavy smoke emanating from the living room and bedroom areas.
Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze around 12:20 p.m.
Officials said the man who lives there was mowing his lawn when the fire broke out in the garage, but he was not injured.
Damage is estimated at $210,000. A Toyota sedan in the garage is considered a total loss.
The cause is still under investigation.
