LIHUE, Hawaii (AP) - An assistant police chief is suing the Kauai Police Department, saying he was retaliated against after reporting a fellow officer's complaint of sexual discrimination.
The Garden Island reports that 47-year-old Mark Begley filed the suit Monday. It also names Chief Darryl Perry, Kauai County and two other assistant chiefs as defendants.
Begley's attorney says he has been harassed, intimidated and retaliated against by Perry and others since making the report more than four years ago.
The suit also claims the county tried to terminate Begley's employment while he was on medical leave.
Spokeswoman Sarah Blane said the county had not been formally served with the complaint as of Tuesday and declined to comment on pending litigation.
