MILILANI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Crowds of hungry customers came out for the highly-anticipated grand opening of Hawaii's first Five Guys Burgers and Fries restaurant on Tuesday.
The 2,000-square-foot eatery opened at the Town Center of Mililani about 11 a.m., with a line out the door.
Among the attendees at the grand opening: Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell and Hawaii franchise owners Amannda and Ken Schneider, who also own Five Guys franchises in Washington state.
The Schneiders will also open the next Five Guys location at Ka Makana Alii in Kapolei later this year. There are also plans to roll out eight additional locations across the state.
In addition to selling burgers, hot dogs and french fries, Five Guys also serves up bulk peanuts.
Five Guys, headquartered in Virginia, was established by Jerry Murrell and his four sons in 1986 – hence "five guys." There are now more than 1,200 locations.
