KAPOLEI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - More than 3,000 Leeward residents looking for new job opportunities gathered at UH West Oahu on Saturday.
The fourth annual Hire Leeward Job and Career Fair hosted over 80 Leeward businesses with over 1,000 positions to fill.
The job fair was aimed not just towards employing more Leeward residents, but also to alleviate west side traffic concerns.
"If a thousand people from the Leeward coast got a job today and they literally drove to town that means a thousand cars have been taken off the road just from this one job fair alone," Councilmember Kymberly Marcos Pine said. "And that's what we're trying to do we're trying to reduce traffic. Increase people's quality of life so they can spend more time with their families and just have a happier more productive community."
Employers who still have positions to fill will post their job listings online.
