HONOLULU (Hawaii News Now): Emma Taylor, a senior hurdle runner for the track and field team at Hawaii Preparatory Academy, has been named the Gatorade track and field athlete of the year in the state of Hawaii.
The Gatorade company alongside USA TODAY High School Sports chose Taylor based off her athletic accomplishments and also her accomplishments in the classroom.
Hawaii Prep coach Patrick Lau says that Taylor is more than deserving of this award.
"Emma Taylor is a hard-working, dedicated athlete with a strong leadership values," said Lau. "She always helps the younger athletes and she's been a role model to her teammates and competitors."
This past season Taylor won first in 100-meter high hurdles with a time of 15.79 seconds and 300-meter hurdles with a time of 45.82 seconds.
Alongside these achievements in track she has also maintained a 3.86 GPA in the classroom as well has volunteered in the community.
Taylor is now among other track and field athletes across the states nominated for the Gatorade National Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year.
The winner for this award will be announced in June.
Taylor has signed a letter of intent to play on scholarship for Boston College in the fall.
