HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Honolulu woman taken to Queen's Medical Center in critical condition after being hit by a truck Saturday morning has died from her injuries.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner identified the woman as 56-year-old Benida Wellens.
The incident occurred just after 5 o'clock at the intersection of South Vineyard Boulevard and Punchbowl Street.
An autopsy to determine Wellens cause of death will be done on Monday.
A 54-year-old Honolulu male driving a Ford pick-up truck was traveling east on Vineyard Boulevard when he struck Wellens near a marked crosswalk.
The driver stayed at the scene and waited for police to arrive.
It is unknown at this time if speed, drugs or alcohol were contributing factors in the crash.
No arrest has been made at this time and this case is still under investigation.
This is the 20 traffic fatality this year compared to 26 in 2015.
