Hawaii resident charged with assaulting man in wheelchair

PAHOA, HAWAII (HawaiiNewsNow) - A Pahoa resident accused of assaulting a man in a wheelchair has been charged with the crime.

Hawaii Island Police charged Christopher Mohrlang, 35, with two counts of third-degree assault after he turned himself in on Friday.

Mohrlang reportedly assaulted the 57-year-old man around 10:45 p.m. on June 7 in Pahoa Town. The victim is a homeless man who is known to frequent the area.

Police did not say if the man was seriously injured or what led to the alleged assault.

The suspect was released from custody after posting $1,000 bail.
