House fire in Waianae displaces elderly couple

WAIANAE, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

An elderly couple has been displaced after a fire destroyed their home in Waianae on Wednesday.

Honolulu Fire Department responded to a two-alarm structure fire at 6:31 p.m. 

Firefighters said a one-story single family home with its detached carport were engulfed in flames. 

The fire was under control by 6:42 p.m. and all second-alarm units were canceled en route. The fire was fully extinguished by 6:45 p.m., HFD said.

The damages are expected at $50,000.

No one was inside the home or was injured. The elderly couple, who were home at the time of the fire, will be staying with family and friends, HFD said.

The cause of the fire is currently undetermined and under investigation.
