HALAWA (HawaiiNewsNow) - The state is rescheduling bridge deck inspection and lighting maintenance on the H-1 freeway westbound after the simultaneous projects spurred hours-long traffic gridlock Wednesday.
The traffic started backing up in the late morning after three lanes were closed for the work.
The same work for eastbound lanes that was set for Thursday has also been rescheduled.
On Wednesday, westbound drivers encountered bumper-to-bumper traffic from Moanalua to Waipahu.
In a post on Twitter at 12:38 p.m., the state Department of Transportation said the work would be rescheduled because of the traffic back-up.
