HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The state's largest high school football camp wrapped up at the University of Hawaii on Sunday afternoon, and a familiar face took home top honors.

Tua Tagovailoa, the Saint Louis quarterback and University of Alabama commit, was named the overall MVP of the GPA College Showcase by the camp's coaches, an honor that reflects his standing as the state's most sought-after prep football recruit.

"It's amazing," said Tagovailoa, minutes after receiving the award. "Just to be able to come out and compete with the best, not only on the island, but [across] the islands, you know, compete with the best in the state, is a humbling experience."

Tagovailoa's final summer of high school football is far from over. In the coming weeks, he'll prepare to compete in Nike's pretigious The Opening camp, which is set to get underway on July 5th.

Several of his Crusader teammates turned in strong performances of their own. Linebacker Isaac Slade-Matautia was named the camp's top defensive player, and OL Mike Minihan, OL Arasi Mose, DL Faatui Tuitele, DB Isaiah Tufaga and LB Jace Smalley each won MVP awards for their respective positions.

"Getting the MVP, and all of my teammates getting the MVP, it felt really good," said Minihan, a senior-to-be for the Crusaders. "Having all the work that we've put in during the offseason pay off, and now it's just time to head into season play."
