No tsunami threat following 5.2-magnitude quake in Southern California

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A powerful earthquake struck Southern California, but it was not strong enough to generate a tsunami threat to Hawaii, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake, measured at a magnitude of 5.2, occurred approximately 12 miles north-northwest of Borrego Springs, or 60 miles northeast of San Diego. It happened around 10 p.m. Hawaii time.

People in Los Angeles and San Diego reported via social media that they felt the temblor.
