HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Remember Hawaii Raceway Park? The man behind it, Wayne Rhoden, wants to create something similar on more or less the same land west of Kalaeloa airport. Pacific Business News reports Rhoden has met with HCDA officials to discuss it, but HCDA has heard from others with similar intentions.

Federal bankruptcy court turns down a request for Honey Bee USA to have more time to raise funds for Waikiki Landing. That was the project to put a restaurant and retail over the boat refueling station at the Ala Wai Small Boat Harbor. Honey Bee might ask for reconsideration if it nails down some funding.

Central Pacific promotes Betty Lewis to vice president and mortgage loan manager of Haseko HomeLoans. And Sharlene Chae is the new Kahala Times Branch manager. She came from City Bank where she was Korean language specialist.

Solar installers on Oahu pulled more than 400 permits for new projects last month, but it was about 50 fewer than the month before and a third lower than year-before. Blame cheap fossil fuel for this.

WalletHub says Hawaii has the tenth worst state economy. As always the outcome is determined by the criteria chosen. We have one of the lowest jobless rates of any state by amazingly that criterion wasn't counted. Our ranking was dragged down by a low percentage of high tech jobs and low exports.
