HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - For many beach volleyball players, competing against the world's elite on the AVP Pro Beach Volleyball Tour is a dream. Now, for local standouts, that dream is closer to becoming a reality than ever before thanks to the AVP Next Tournament Series.
The third event in the five tournament format got underway Sunday morning at Queen's Beach. The series offers men's and women's pairs teams an opportunity to accumulate AVP qualification points, earn a national ranking, and the top finishers will earn a berth in the Manhattan Beach Open. AVP pros, like Kaui Salzman, say events like this one are invaluable to the development of players here in the 808.
"We're pretty far away from the California coast and where all the top players are playing so it'ss really really nice for the kids to have something to look forward to, gain some points so that when they do fly out there in the summer and compete they're in the rankings as well so it's really really good, it' really exciting." said Salzman.
