Forecast: Trade winds, trade showers return to start the week

Trade winds should spread over the state Monday as high pressure builds to the north. The winds may get locally gusty Monday night before backing off just a little bit Tuesday afternoon. With the return of the trades, look for windward and mauka showers, especially Monday morning into Tuesday. A more typical summer-like trade wind weather pattern should hold for the rest of the week.

In the surf department, we have a small late-season northwest swell that will push wave heights to around 3-5 feet for north shores and 1-3 for west shores. Small waves are expected elsewhere. We're still on track for a south swell late Wednesday that could reach advisory levels by Thursday.
