HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

Last night, the world lost a living legend when Muhammad Ali died. Today, among the many who are mourning, is one Oahu native who knew the World Champion for more than four decades and says he got to see first hand, why he was truly "The Greatest".

"I think he should be remembered as the ultimate person of love. A person of peace transcending his boxing skills. He believed in peace, and he believed in world peace, and he practiced what he preached." said Douglas Ho, who met Ali in 1968 and became friends with the silver-tongued boxing legend. "He volunteered to go to some of these real war torn countries just to rectify some of this situations on a smaller scale, whatever he could do."

Ho sat ringside when Ali fought Joe Frazier at the 'Thrilla in Manila', a memory 41 years later, he still recalls vividly.

"I don't know how he survived that fight because it was a vicious fourteen round fight. I don't think either of them could've come out for a 15th round. Frazier didn't fight after that and Ali lost five or six years of his life in that ring." recalls Ho.

Ho says he hopes to attend the funeral in Louisville next week.
