More than two dozen volunteers from various local organizations geared up to spend the morning cleaning the Nuuanu stream in the Queen Liliuokalani Botanical Garden. The site is considered to be the Queen’s favorite picnic spot.

The volunteers picked up recently rain-soaked materials ranging from plastic bags and bicycle tires… and even hazardous materials like drug paraphernalia.

The clean-up resulted in collecting about 1,000 pounds of garbage, filling two City and County of Honolulu Parks dumpsters.

This is the third year that the Trout Unlimited Hawaii Chapter and the Oregon State University's Alumni Association conducted this “Community Day of Service” event.
