Police union endorses Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell landed a high-profile endorsement from the State of Hawaii Organization of Police Officers on Thursday for his re-election bid.

SHOPO has about 3,000 members and its president says the endorsement came down to a number of factors, two in particular.

"His passion and his commitment to the police officers, the men and women who put their lives on the line each and every day and last but not least, definitely, the families of those police officers who make the ultimate sacrifice," SHOPO president, Tenari Maafala said.

Caldwell said his number one priority is public safety, pointing out that Honolulu is one of the safest big cities in the country.
