MAALAEA, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A large honeybee colony was safely removed from an emergency siren on Maui on Thrusday.

A Maui County worker found the bees over the siren's access box at Haycraft Beach Park in Maalaea about a week and a half ago.

The beekeeper blew smoke into the box to confuse the bees, then vacuumed the bees to take back to his farm.

He estimates they were there for about two years, considering the size of the honeycomb.

60 pounds of honey was found inside.
