Entertainment: Lantern Floating Hawaii and Na Hoku Hanohano Awards

Most of yesterday's ceremonies had to do with giving thanks to our men and women who have served our country.  Yesterday's Lantern Floating Hawaii at Magic Island brings that even wider as the ceremonies give pause to remembers all those who have gone before.  First of all the weather held nicely for the some 50,000 people at Magic Island; the over 6000 lanterns that were given out starting at 10:00am ran out about 2 hours earlier than anticipated, even though Lantern Floating Hawaii added over 600 lanterns this year.  Half way thru the ceremony we noticed people were still streaming into the Magic Island area on foot.

The Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts held it's biggest event of the year.  Awards for excellence in the Hawaii Recording Industry.  Among some of the high lights:  Chad Takatsugi released his first solo album last year and walked away with four awards.  Jimmy Borges won four awards; his wife and daughter accepted for Jimmy; he would be watching the festivities from home.  Natalie Ai Kamauu won three awards; one was for Female Vocalist of the year; her fourth time winning the prestigious award.
There were SO many magical moments over the weekend; I'll put that up on the blog on my Billy V On Sunrise Facebook page later this morning.

Remember we told you last week that there was going to be a fashion runway at the Na Hoku Hanohano Awards?  Here are your Poi Planet Style Award winners:  Aurora Kaawa is a former Miss Hawaii '71 and won the talent award at Miss America and lives in Makakilo.  She found her dress in Palm Springs back in 2012 and she just wanted to wait for the right moment to wear it.
Sean O'Malley is part of the comedy duo "Oil In The Alley" and was a final ballot nominee Saturday night.  Sean's oil and fire outfit was inspired by their name; his partner's outfit inspired by water.  Judges saw 56 contestants in 60 minutes

This young lady just missed walking the runway by 1 minute; Kimie Miner would have 2 other clothing changes that night; the dress was by Oday Shakar and jewels by Jason Dow.  The dress compliments her really well!!
She would perform on stage later that night and walk away a winner with the Contemporary Album of the Year Award.
