Good Monday morning and wishing everyone a wonderful Memorial Day. We will remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and honor those who left before us on this light trade wind Monday.
A hint of the trade winds are here, but they will be on the slow end, so we will still feel the heat and the muggy weather today and we are also tracking a weak front that will bring some scattered showers for the western end of the state during its passing and some showers for Maui County later today into Tuesday.
The trade winds are set to get a little stronger on Tuesday into the new workweek after the front sweeps by and there will be an uptick in windward and mauka showers within the trade wind flow.
There will also be potential interior showers popping up during the heat of the day due to the sea breeze pattern for parts of the state.
Afternoon highs will climb to the low to mid-80s. It will feel warm due to the light winds over the eastern end of the state. So on this holiday, if you are spending time outdoors, drink plenty of water and lather up on the sunscreen. The UV index will be high at 12.
We will see some improvements as more classic trade winds return this week. Until then, expect today as a transition day with scattered showers and a mix of light winds with trade winds building behind a front.
SURF OUTLOOK: Surf is expected to remain below advisory levels. A small northwest swell is possible today before declining into midweek. Another small bump in south shore surf is expected Tuesday night into Wednesday.
Winds will remain light through the period, keeping choppy east shore surf at a minimum.
Your marine forecast calls for smooth sailing and light winds ENE 10 to 15 knots. There may be a Small Craft Advisory posted later this week as the trade winds strengthen.
