HANA, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - A woman was killed and another was critically injured Sunday afternoon when the SUV they were in plunged off a 200-foot cliff on Hana Highway.
Rescue crews had to manually pry two women out of the vehicle. The woman in critical condition and was flown to Maui Memorial Medical Center.
Hana firefighters got the call about the crash about 4:42 p.m., and arrived at the scene across from St. Peter Catholic Mission on Hana Highway.
Officials say the vehicle had gone over the makai shoulder directly across the church and landed on the shoreline about 200 feet below.
Police closed down both directions of the highway to investigate the crash.
