HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - It's graduation season for schools across the island and the nation, but for Damien Memorial School, this year's celebrations marked a special one.
On Sunday, the school had its first ever coed graduation in its 54 year history at the Blaisdell Concert Hall.
The school began admitting female students in 2012, and four year later, they were among the 115 students who received their high school diplomas.
There were also two valedictorians this year – one male and one female student.
"I feel honored to represent my class in such a way, but it still feels like I'm going to wake up and it's going to be the beginning of freshman year all over again," Melissa Gozun, the school's inaugural female valedictorian, said. "I'm excited to see where the history of Damien is headed next."
