HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The cost of living in Hawaii is on the rise, but Oahu residents are getting a slight break: The Honolulu Board of Water Supply says water rates will stay the same through June 2017.

Earlier this week, the BWS approved the $291.7 million budget for the 2017 fiscal year, which starts on July 1.

BWS manager and chief engineer Ernest Lau said revenues from the existing water rates will be enough to operate Oahu’s water system for its approximately one million customers for the next fiscal year.

Of the total budget, $210.9 million will be for operating expenses and $80.8 million has been allocated for the capital improvement program, which include various research, replacement and expansion projects across the island.
