HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - During this graduation season, Honolulu Police are reminding the public about the dangers of drinking and driving.
HPD stepped up drunk driving enforcement efforts in early May, which include random DUI checkpoints that they say will continue throughout the summer.
If you're planning on hosting a graduation party, officers have a warning for you.
"If you're an adult hosting a party or buying or otherwise providing alcohol for a juvenile, and they get into some kind of mishap that causes death or serious bodily injury or even property damage to someone, you can be held civilly liable," HPD Major Darren Izumo said.
That means under Hawaii's social hosting law, you could be subject to a lawsuit and face criminal charges.
