HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Punahou School senior Tyler Ohata was selected as the 2015-16 Gatorade Hawaii Boys Soccer Player of the Year.
Ohata, who was the goalkeeper, led his team to the Division I state championship with a 12-0-3 record this past season.
The award recognizes outstanding student athletes who also show high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character on and off the field.
"Ohata is a very good keeper who made big time saves in crucial matches," said Jayson Abe, head coach of Mid-Pacific High School.
In addition to his most recent honor, Ohata was recognized by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser as the state player of the year and was voted most outstanding player of the Division I tournament.
