Firefighters unable to determine cause of Palolo church fire

PALOLO, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A fire broke out at an abandoned church in Palolo late Tuesday.

Honolulu firefighters said around 11:15 p.m., 35 crew members responded to the two-alarm fire at the St. Patrick Church Food and Outreach on 2117 Palolo Avenue where they arrived to find black smoke coming from the basement-level kitchen of the structure.

The fire was brought under control at 11:50 p.m. and fully extinguished by midnight. 

HFD said no one was in the building at the time of the fire and that there were no injuries. The estimated damage is $1000.

HFD has closed the case with the cause of the fire being undetermined. However, HFD said the case can be reopened if new information is discovered.
