KAPOLEI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Nearly 15,000 of 160,000 homes receiving city automated collection services on Oahu will be affected as a new trash collection schedule will begin on June 6.
Affected households received notices in the mail, informing them of their new pick up schedules. Homes that did not receive a notice in the mail will continue with their current schedule.
"This is the first time we have updated routes since 2014," said Lori Kahikina, director of the Department of Environmental Services. "We used route optimization software and a close review of route sizing to make routes more efficient, while providing room for expansion."
New collection schedule calendars will be posted online at www.opala.org on June 3, 2016 when the current calendar will be taken down.
