HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The TSA showcased its new canine unit at Aloha Stadium and the Blaisdell arena on Tuesday.
The event was part of the Explosives Detection Canine Trainig event for the Hawaii region.
As part of the training, the dogs sniffed around people and through the standsof the stadium to help find explosives and drugs.
"One of the things that we saw here today was passenger screening canines as passengers were coming in through the turnstyle. It's one of the things the TSA is using to screen quickly and eliminate some of the lines we've been saying for the past few months," TSA spokesman, Nico Melendez said.
A total of 40 canine teams will be used for state, federal and county law enforcement to pinpoint the location of hidden explosives and to help authorities catch the culprits in busy areas.
