LIHUE, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Two hikers were rescued Tuesday after writing "SOS" on the sand at the remote Kalalau Beach.
A Coast Guard helicopter crew hoisted the pair to safety and dropped them off at Lihue Airport, where paramedics were waiting. They are in stable condition.
Coast Guard officials said one of the hikers had an ankle injury. The two were hiking Na Pali Coast Trail.
The Coast Guard crew was conducting training in the area when they heard about the "SOS."
The crew arrived about 9:25 a.m. to see the two stranded on the beach and waving their arms.
