HILO, BIG ISLAND (HawaiiNewsNow) - Corrections officers at the Hale Nani Reintegration Center on the Big Island caught an inmate in an attempted contraband run on Saturday.
The dorm was temporarily put on lockdown around 11 a.m. while officers searched for Sloan Deleon -- an inmate serving time for second-degree theft and prohibited acts related to drug paraphernalia -- who was seen running out the dorm and up a hillside.
A few minutes later, Deleon was seen running back to the dorm and climbing through a window with a silver bag.
Corrections officers discovered that the bag contained candy, tobacco and what appeared to be marijuana.
Deleon was transported to the Hawaii Community Correctional Center. He could face contraband possession-related charges as well as attempted escape.
