KAHULUI, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Nearly two dozen riders headed down the Mokulele bike path through Kahului for the Memorial Ride of Silence on Saturday.
The Maui Bicycling League encourages residents to get on their bikes instead of commuting by car.
Participants wore shirts honoring riders who have been injured or killed in bike accidents.
"We just want the rest of the community to understand how important it is to be aware that bicycle riders and pedestrians are out there and they need to be aware and make sure that they drive safely around them," Ride Leader, Kawika Plummer said.
Similar events were held in other locations as part of National Bike Month.
