WAILUKU, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) - Jury selection is slated to begin Monday in the case against a man charged with the grisly murder of a pregnant Maui woman.
Steven Capobianco has pleaded not guilty to killing his ex-girlfriend, Carly "Charli" Scott, who was reported missing Feb. 10, 2014.
Family members said the 27-year-old, who was five months pregnant with Capobianco's son, was last seen leaving the house to pick up Capobianco.
Police started investigating the case as a homicide when they found her torched car and more of her belongings in the search.
They subsequently found some of her remains, and prosecutors say her clothes indicated she had been tortured and her unborn child stabbed repeatedly.
Capobianco was indicted on second-degree murder and third-degree arson charges in July 2014.
