Forecast: Trade winds will strengthen, bringing some passing showers

Happy Aloha Friday! Graduations will be celebrated today into the weekend and we will have the trade winds strengthening for our graduates! The trade winds will be the dominant feature to our weather, bringing in passing windward and mauka showers.

The front that slowed down our winds on Thursday is beginning to dissipate.  Once it does, an area of high pressure will strengthen and so will our winds.  We will be back to classic trade wind weather.

Let’s talk surf: The new southwest swell that peaked on Thursday is slowly easing over the weekend. Surf associated with this southerly source is expected to remain below advisory levels at this time, but it is still making a lot of town surfers excited about the switch to summer season. Choppy surf will increase along east facing shores over the weekend as trade winds strengthen. Otherwise only small surf is expected.  The building winds will also likely keep a Small Craft Advisory posted throughout the weekend

So to sum it up, moderate to at times locally breezy trade winds will dominate the weather across the state through this weekend. Low clouds and showers carried by the trades will remain focused over windward and mauka areas, with brief showers occasionally passing over leeward sections of some islands.  Have a wonderful Aloha Friday in Hawaii Nei.
