EMS expands service to include bicycles

Emergency Medical Services is expanding its effort to the sidewalks.

They spent the day training paramedics, EMTs and even some police officers on bicycles so they can better serve residents during big events.

But these are no ordinary bikes. Each one is equipped with almost everything you would find on an ambulance: an AED, intubation kits, cardiac drugs and other life-saving tools. The equipment itself weighs about 60 pounds, making it tougher to balance and maneuver on two wheels.

Since April, 14 people have been trained for the new bike team.

They plan to deploy their new bikes at this summer's International Union for Conservation of Nature.
