Good Tuesday Morning! It will be another gorgeous day in paradise with the trade winds.
Trade winds will gradually strengthen over the next couple of days as an area of high pressure builds and also anchors to our north. We can expect for the winds to weaken just a notch on Thursday and Friday as a front approaches the area from the northwest. This will weaken our "trade wind-maker" -- the area of high pressure that brings us the northeast winds. During this week, we can expect clouds and passing showers to favor windward and mauka neighborhoods with just a few lights showers expected over some leeward locations.
As far as surf, it is a transition to summer with town side seeing bigger waves. We are tracking a moderate south swell is expected late Wednesday through Friday. Otherwise, small swells are expected this week. Trade winds will increase through Tuesday, leading to a slight increase in short period surf along east-facing shores.
With the strengthening trade winds, a Small Craft Advisory has been posted for coastal waters off Maui County and the Big Island. Expect rough seas there, and plan accordingly.
During the second half of the week, a frontal system will be approaching the area from the west. The front is forecast to never reach the state but it will cause our trade winds to become a bit lighter Thursday and Friday especially over the west end of the state.
