KIHEI, MAUI (HawaiiNewsNow) -

A power outage hit parts of North and South Kihei road, just after 2 p.m. on Monday.

Approximately 3,400 customers were left without power until crews completed repairs by 2:28 p.m.

The cause of the outage was determined to be a metallic balloon that got tangled in power lines near Kenolio Park on South Kihei Road.

Metallic balloons are notorious for causing power outages, especially during graduation season. Attaching a small weight to the end of the balloon will prevent it from flying away and possibly causing more outages.
