HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii-born striker Bobby Wood has signed a four-year contract with Hamburger SV in Germany's Bundesliga, according to a statement released on the team's website.
Wood, 23, is also a member of the U.S. men's national team. He arrives in Hamburg after a short stint with Union Berlin.
He is the team's first new signing for the coming season. HSV said.
"We are very pleased that we were able to realize this transfer early, and [Wood] is a young player with a lot of potential for development who already has international experience," says Dietmar Beiersdorfer, HSV director.
Wood was born in Honolulu but has played in Germany for more than nine years. The Bundesliga is Germany's highest-caliber soccer league.
